Volunteer Street Sports

Guernsey Sports Commission

Work Involved:

Supporting the delivery of existing Street Sports sessions and new sporting initiatives into the community. Encouraging young people 11-18 to participate in healthy and positive activities in their leisure time.

Commission staff take with them equipment for a variety of sports including football, basketball, netball, tchoukball, cricket, hockey, handball; and in the summer it is also possible to do Frisbee, volleyball, badminton, softball, rounders and circus skills.

The activities are chosen by the young people with guidance from staff who aim to support everyone to enjoy the activities on offer. Through these sports and physical activities, the programme aims to increase young people's self-esteem, encourage participation and the development of their skills, the opportunities in their neighbourhood, and create a positive, fun and safe environment for them to be active in.

Young people are also made aware of other opportunities available to them across the island that may benefit their well-being. At the sessions, we also work in conjunction with other agencies such as the Arts Commission, Action for Children and the Youth Service.

Hours:

Between 1-3 Street Sports sessions are held at 3 locations across the Island for 3-9 hours per week Tuesdays 18.30-21.30 Wednesdays 18.30-21.30 Thursdays 18.15-21.00. You may volunteer for all sessions or just one.Sports
