What is the Careers & Skills Show?
The Careers & Skills Show is a free event organised by Careers Guernsey, Education Services States of Guernsey. It has been running for over 35 years and is well supported by a wide range of employers and learning providers.
The event is for the whole community including career changers, the unemployed, returners to work. Students from Year 9, Year 10, Year 11 and Post-16 attend from all of the schools and Colleges.
The aims of the Careers & Skills Show are:
- To raise awareness of the breadth and variety of job sectors and job roles in Guernsey
- To provide employers and learning providers with an opportunity to showcase the opportunities they offer in an informal and accessible way
- To raise aspirations and encourage participation in employment and skills development
- To provide information 'all under one roof' to help with effective career planning
- To improve understanding of different work and skills
Who is the Careers and Skills Show for?
Anyone can visit the Careers and Skills Show to find out more. If you are finding yourself in any of the situations below, a visit to the Show will be helpful for you:
- Wanting to retrain and up-skill
- Preparing for an increase in retirement age
- Unemployed
- Facing redundancy
- Parents/Carers wanting to prepare for a return to work
- Looking for a career change
- Returning to work after a health issue
- Returning to learning
You can visit the Careers Guernsey stand in the Concourse area first if you are not sure how best to make use of the Show for your own situation. Careers Advisers can help you navigate the exhibitors and check helpful questions to ask.
How do I register if I'm interested in attending the event?
The event is FREE entry, and no registration is needed prior to the event. You can just walk into the event.

What can I find out about and do at the event?
On both days, there will be over 50 employers and training providers representing all different sectors at their respective booths to showcase the opportunities they offer. You can visit the stands and talk to them to help you find out more about the job roles possible, training and skills options, career pathways, entry requirements and a chance to speak to them about your own interests and career development.
Many of the exhibitors have organised 'Have a go' activities on their stands as a great way to meet them.
Careers Guernsey will have Careers Advisers and staff available in the Concourse area for careers advice, careers information, work experience, careers planning and they can also help you check which exhibitors link with your interests for you to find out more.
On the Wednesday evening, you can meet GET (Guernsey Employment Trust) to find out more about the work they do to support disabled and disadvantaged people to prepare for, find and maintain work. The new Employment and Equal Opportunities Service (EEOS) will also be available on the Wednesday for helpful advice and information about any employment matters either as an individual or as an organisation.
On the Thursday, students from across all the schools will be visiting from Years 9 through to Post-16 to be inspired about their futures.
Visiting the Careers and Skills Show is a perfect opportunity to explore what opportunities are out there for learning, employment and training to help you develop your career. There is so much information and inspiration available!
How do I find a specific employer that I'm interested in?
Careers Guernsey staff will be available in the Concourse area during both days, to help direct you to stands. Floorplans and signage will also be available at the event to help you navigate around the Show.
